Some Things are Just Wrong

The other day I was out running some errands and stopped at the store to pick up a few items. Walking down the aisle I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw a bag of steak flavored potato chips. That caused me to have a, “What the . . .” moment. I mean think about it – are you really going to eat steak flavored chips with a hamburger?

Driving home I started having second thoughts. Perhaps I had misread the bag. Maybe my glasses were dirty causing the letters to blur. It was early in the day so I ruled out the possibility of alcohol being involved.

Back at home, I kept thinking about those potato chips and decided to do a quick search on the internet. There it was – steak flavored potato chips. Not just one but several different types of steak flavored potato chips.

I scanned the list and found a few other flavors such as:
Dill Pickle
Horseradish
Hot Dog
Grilled Cheese
Chicken, Thyme and Lemon
Crab Spice
Atlantic Lobster
Pulled Pork

We might be going a little overboard with all these flavors. I think I’ll wait until they come out with potato flavored potato chips.

Randy brought home Chili Cheese Fry potato chips the other night, and I thought something similar. I prefer my chips plain, thanks. Perhaps with the occasional dip (and no, I don't mean myself, or even my husband), but definitely "potato flavored" chips.

Ralph ~ I agree... some of these taste choices are just almost over-whelming... but just occasionally they get it right and come up with a real good one. BBQ comes to mind. But some of those others just sound gross though. ~ j///b

I admit to bein' a bbq chip gal, or Maui Onion, even an occasional Salt and Pepper or Salt and Vinegar chip. But the majority of those new flavors are the foods you have chips with. But then if you just get the hot dog flavored chip you can skip pickin up the dogs and buns and just eat the whole bag for lunch.

I've seen those steak flavored chips somewhere in one of our stores. I would never buy them let alone eat one. But I did have a taste of the dill pickle chips about 5 years ago. All I ate was one. That's all I needed. Ewwww.

Actually my grandchildren introduced me to Dorito Cheeseburger flavored chips and I liked them. There is no way I can afford Atlantic Lobster so the chips might be the closet I can get to enjoying that flavor burst:) Someday people will scoff at the idea of a potato flavored chip.

I'm with Cheyenne. I tried the pickle chips and never looked at another bag after that one went in the trash. What they will do to get our money. Never heard of the other flavors.

I do however, love salt & vinegar chips.

The title is just right... some things are just wrong.
Most potato chips are now wrong.

I didn't know they had all those flavors. I believe most of the flavored chips are loaded with MSG so I don't touch them. I do like the 'potato flavored' ones though. :)

I had heard of those flavors before from my friend in England. A chip flavored lamb and mint?? The thought makes my stomach get all knotted up. I have not seen the steak chips here yet. They're probably here. I'm not great at looking for new things! I will stick to the regular Lay's potatoe chips or the baked ones.

Ralph, it is true...and depending upon what part of the country you happen to find yourself will also depend upon what local flavors you find on the shelves. Here in the North East, you might find "OLD BAY" seasoned chips too..which, I can say from experience are really yukky! LOL!
I think you are one hundred percent right, why can't we just have a chip that tastes like a chip. Enjoy the simple things? Just sayin'...

Just wanted to leave you a couple nice words. I stumbled across your blog and have thoroughly enjoyed the reading material these last couple of nights. From the Sunday Funnies to the Swarming Wasps. Thanks for giving me a good couple of laughs!
---I am a fan of the Dill Pickle chip, I can't bring myself to say I don't like something if I don't try it. Live and learn, if not wash it down with soda.

Hi Ralph, I will pass on the steak flavored chips. Yesterday though, I bought a bag of frozen Gorton's potato crusted fish pieces. They were pretty good but the house smelled like baking potatoes while they were cooking in the oven.

We also had some cold here this year. I predict that with our global warming we will have ever colder winters and ever hotter and wetter summers. That trend will get more extreme for as long as we live and a whole lot longer.
Best grow more trees and use more electric cars!

I expect you'll see those same flavors in toothpaste soon, too. Ugh?!

My First Wife and I often fry up our own chips or fries. It fun, it's cheap, and portion control comes into play here. Haven't been down the chip aisle in a long time. Too confusing. However, we buy a lot of tortilla chips.
