Miles
For whatever reason, I kept track of how many miles I traveled in 2005. I used the odometer on the various cars to measure the miles driven, a pedometer in my pocket to track the miles walked, and a cyclometer on my bike to record the miles pedaled. All told, I traveled 40,544 miles in 2005.
Flying: O miles. I am not a big airplane fan so this didn’t bother me at all.
Driving: 38,243 miles. This included work related activities as well as some great road trips.
Biking: 838 miles. This was mainly training for Ride the Rockies that happened in June.
Walking: 1,463 miles. Just in cause you’re wondering, that is 3,543,148 steps. An average of 9,707 steps a day.
Well, that was 2005. Those miles held many great memories.
It is now 2006. The question is how many miles will be traveled this year, where will they take you, and what new experiences will you have?
Happy New Year – enjoy the miles.

What a lovely way to look at it. Happy New Year to you and your family, filled with love and laughter!
Is this why you didn't come out to help during harvest? No odometers on the John Deere's? We could have estimated. You know, like 5 miles per hour times the hour meter.
Great post my friend.
Gosh Ralph you have been busy this past year with all that driving, walking, and biking!
All that plus having curlers in your hair and defending Char from bears on pogo stick legs. That's more than most men can say!! :)
(Sounds like Cliff may be installing odometers on the tractors now...)
Man behind her here too, Happy New Year Ralph. I never thought about doing such a detailed keeping track. Mine would be so much shorter though. That is way cool.
Our 9 yr old van has almost the same mileage as your total yearly mileage of all "moving forms."
Ralph, no wonder you're in great shape. That's a lot of healthy walking and biking!
Happy New Year to you and your family!
Oh ROFL, the word verification had swim at the end. I gather you didn't rack up any miles swimming? I did, but I don't keep track.
One of my organizing tasks is to make sure that I got credit for my frequent flyer miles. At least one flight a month, going back to Mar 2003. Uggh.
You got a lot of miles on ya, Ralphie boy!
Well Ralph, seems you have some miles on ya. Char's not gonna trade you in is she? Well, the clearcoat may have peeled and the carburetor may get flooded causing a back-fire here and there, but I'd say your good for many more miles. Keep on walkin' buddy. Happy New Year!
Your post brought this poem to mind:
Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening by Robert Frost.
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it's queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there's some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
No airplane miles, huh? You've done a lot of walking and biking. Great exercise!!
As to the above post: That guy would have to send a lot more than those yummy looking preserves to get me to consider a 550 mile bike trip.
Actually, I think it's great! I hope you do it.
