Another of Life's Mysteries

When I’m trying to solve a problem, get off a long conference call, or leave a meeting that had some difficult moments I have found it is good for me to just walk away. Literally. Leave the building and go for a walk. There is something about being outside, getting some fresh air, hopefully some sunshine, and being alone for even a few minutes that helps me “process” things. It works for me.

At the airport office there are two routes I generally walk. One takes me by the terminal and all the planes. Trust me there is nothing quite like the smell of jet fuel first thing in the morning! The other route takes me down by some open fields, a clump of trees, and has very little traffic. This is my preferred route. Going this way there is a section of sidewalk. This picture shows where it starts.

This picture shows where it ends. This sidewalk is connected to nothing. It runs for about a third of mile and serves no purpose except for me and few others to walk on. It has no reason for being there. Which has always made me ask the obvious – why was it even put in? Just another one of those questions that will have to wait until we get to heaven.

These pictures were taken earlier in the week. The sidewalk and fields are snow covered once again. Which might lead to another of life’s mysteries – will we EVER have a Spring this year?

That sidewalk has a purpose; for you to walk on! It was made just for you and the others who use it!! A walk is good for clearing the mind.

Yes Ralph, spring will come. It'll be here on March 21. Not so far off!! We just had a few snow flurries here.

The flower blooming on my blog is on an inside plant. The only thing outside that is blooming are the crocus and the daffodils.

That sidewalk has a name and it's called "At your wits' end." When you get frustrated and want to get away, you walk till you get to your wits' end. Simple, ain't it?

My mother's town has one of these sidewalks, too. Perhaps if you walked past the end of yours, you would find yourself walking onto the end of the one here. *G*

Let's see Ralph, you said...
Connected to nothing!...
"Serves no purpose but for people to walk on...
Why was it even put in?"
Be careful. You're describing state and county officials here. But I think you know that. You're starting to sound like the folks who call me about county business.

I like the way you think, Ralph. I used to find myself escaping loooong mindless conference calls, too. I reaaally hate blah-blah-blah-blah. And Spring is right around the corner!

Is it the side walk that ends or the turf????

I am very active in my neighborhood association. In the two years I was president I got more calls about sidewalks than anything else.
Crime up, a few calls.
Property taxes doubled, a few more calls.
Sidewalk repairs, dozens of calls a month.

I swear I could be elected Mayor on the platform of "A smooth sidewalk for all."

Enjoy your little slice of private sidewalk, you've earned it.

That sidewalk is just a blessing meant for you and a few others who walk upon it to enjoy.
May your feet avoid grass stains and dirt each time you tread there. :)

Your previous post is HILARIOUS!!!!
I'm sure both you and the Morrows will be happy to see spring arrive.

Adi would like that sidewalk. She's very careful where she walks and it seems pretty weedy where the sidewalk ends.
I see a potential for lawsuits here. People could trip on that first step or hurt their backs getting down off.
The reason it's there? Some people just believe in sidewalks.

when they put in the sidewalk they must have known that you needed a place to clear your mind and think of other things. and it helps you forget your troubles by continuely asking "why"! next time make sure you thank it for being there. lol

I think your good buddy Cliff is in need of someone who is well practiced in the art of shoveling snow. At least you could keep him company and spare Marilyn a bit.

Obviously someone had a plan that wasn't carried out. But I agree with many of your other comments. The Lord knew that some of his children would need a place to walk one day and not get their feet muddy.
I know it seems like Spring is forever away. We have been getting more snow too. Although it is gone at the present time we never know what tomorrow will bring. Now this should be encouraging to you. My baby Daffodils are blooming and the King Alfreds are about to burst open too. The ground is covered with fragrant Violets and the Birds are all getting Twitterpated. Now there. Don't you feel better?

That's just a physical representation of everything that frustrates you regarding working with the government.

Don't you understand? This plot is much larger than we had previously suspected. . .it's even OUTSIDE where you like to 'get away from it all'.

Sneaky Petes.

Dad, it has been a while since you updated, I'm afraid you might be down at the end of the sidewalk trying to figure out where it is supposed to go. Its ok, you'll probably never know, just update.
