Setting at the Kitchen Table

For the second morning in a row, I woke up at 4:30, walked into the kitchen only to realize I had nothing to do. I didn't need to cook meals for Vic. Setting at the kitchen table I suddenly found myself smiling. I really like kitchen tables. Not just mine but every kitchen table I have sat at.

I remember eating great meals around them. I remember Vic devouring (yes, devouring) Colorado peaches. I remember all the great people over the years who have spent time at our kitchen table and all the laughter. I remember Cliff setting there after cooking breakfast showing me how to put pictures on my blog. I also remember Cliff's kitchen table. They have a living room, but I can see that kitchen table where we have spent hours and hours eating great meals and telling stories.

I remembered other friend's kitchen tables where stories have been told, pictures have been shown, memories have been made, and trips have been planned. What a great piece of furniture for building, creating, and maintaining friendships. As well as building great memories.

But, they are hard to sleep on - I am going back to bed.

I loved this post Ralph. Yes kitchen tables are great for many things, sleeping is not one of them. It's a strange feeling isn't it to set about your daily rituals realizing they have just changed. I don't know why but this makes me want to cry. Lovely table by the way..

This blog is what I'm talkin about. I too like this blog. Also the great meals we've had around that table in the pic. We had a preacher once who said you don't really get to know someone until you've sat at a table and eaten with them. The sermon was on communion. By the way, you must of figured out the picture problem. Now I'm trying to figure out if it's supposed to be 'must have' or 'must of'.

Beds do make the best sleeping places, while tables are better for socializing I agree.

And it's "must've," contracted from "must have." :0)

Today is Friday at 11:05 pm. How are you and your wife doing Ralph? Did you wake up at 4:30 again?

Ralph, thanks for visiting my site and telling me I have problems with my family (Ha ha!)

I'm sorry to hear about the loss in your family. My condolances.

I do agree about the kitchen table. We have a nice formal dining room yet we even tend to have holiday dinners at the kitchen table - most used spot in the house. (Course it could also have something to do with the fact that we have three messy kids. - I told my hubby if we didn't get a bigger kitchen table when they got out of highchairs that we'd have to start using the dining room - I got a new table in about 23 minutes!)

I must agree. Greg and I just replaced our old hand-me-down table that was there from the time I was around 7 on through the rest of my life with the family.

I left it out by the dump and hoped someone else would use it.

Kitchen tables are great. My favorite neighbors are Italian and EVERYTHING happens around their kitchen table. Rosie and Mario bring out the food and wine, coffee and tea, and the fun begins. I always laugh. They are great people and they have the cutest dogs.

I have losts of great memories about sitting around kitchen tables with various friends and families... even when my kids were younger and used to kick each other under the table.

Ralph,

Thanks for sharing your memories of Vic. You're in our thoughts and prayers, too.

There's something about sharing memories that seems comforting to so many in times like these. I've enjoyed hearing about Vic.

How come not all of your chairs have pillows on them? Do people with firm asses sit on the pillow-less ones and people with weak asses on the one with the pillows or does it depend on the time that it takes you to devour your food?

Cozy kitchens w/ memories spun around that table. Terrific post, Ralph. I'm sorry your table feels empty now. Thank you for sharing feelings & memories about you, Vic, and your family around the virtual blogging table. Heartfelt condolences to you and yours. I'm sorry I didn't see this news until a few min. ago when reading Cliff's blog. (My reason is unimportant.) *hugs* to your whole family

Ralph, I guess Astrid took the words right out of my mouth. Now I have to think of something else to say.
Julie and I have been married almost 5 years now. And for those 5 years, we have had a kitchen table that would only seat the 2 of us, if I wasn't covered in "Stuff". We finally got a big table, and threw out all the living room furniture to fit it in the house. Now there is room to fit your family and mine around the table. So come and visit some time, Cliff will bake a cake.

You'll both be happy to know we now have cushions for all four chairs. A nice little cushion, quite comfortable. They'll be here when you come visit.
