The Forgotten Holiday
Okay, I'm confused. More than usual I mean. Here are the events of the past few days.
10/31: It’s Halloween and the candy is plentiful. Fifty-seven kids stop by, not counting some of my special friends who stopped by twice because they always get something extra.
11/1: Walking into the grocery store I noticed that all the Halloween candy is right at the front of the store and is now 50% off. The store is now fully loaded with candy canes and all kinds of Christmas candy.
11/2: Walking into the store you’re greeted by Christmas decorations and an artificial Christmas tree. They were also playing Christmas music. I wanted to blurt out, “Come on! It’s only November 2.”
11/3: Driving home I saw it – the first house of the year with Christmas lights. To top it off, there were strings and strings of those fake icicle lights. It didn’t get any better once I got home. I saw the first TV Christmas commercial promising the ‘perfect Christmas’.
11/4: This morning as one of the major news stories, they told where you go to cut your own Christmas tree.
All this raises the question – is anyone going to celebrate Thanksgiving?

excellent point Ralph.
It seems to get worse every year. The older I get, the more Scrooge-like I get. Bah Humbug!
I agree with Jerry! They started putting out Christmas stuff at some places here long before Halloween. They just rush it too much. I get more like Scrooge too. I don't even do decorations. Once I put up decorations and then got tired of them and took them down before Christmas! My sister-in-law thought I was nuts! (Well, I could be.....a little...maybe....perhaps.......NAH)!!
Commercialism at its finest. But yes, I'll be celebrating Thanksgiving with the annual Family Squabble amongst the in-laws. They seldom get along when confined in one room at the same time for more than a couple of minutes.
C'mon Ralph, Thanksgiving isn't until the 24th. Besides, I don't know what you are thankful for, but I am thankful for Christmas.
Ralph, dear - every day is a day of thanksgiving!
I often wonder about why they put out Christmas ornaments in July and August. I shop year 'round for Christmas, but I wouldn't think of buying ornaments that early... (I have bought Hallmark ornaments for each of my children every year since they were born) My Christmas shopping is pretty much done so I am ready to enjoy ALL of the holidays. I hate shopping during the Christmas shopping season... it gets way too crazy!
I do wonder why people put up Christmas lights so early... some people down hear leave them up all year and just turn them on in December. Seems lazy to me.
I know that many people don't decorate for very long because they get tired of it all, but I like to start to get our decorations up during the first week in December. I really enjoy having them up... and yes... I am one of those people that LOVES Christmas music... I don't ever get tired of it!
But then, I have never worked in a mall or had to spend all of my spare time during December shoppping in one.
Gobble Gobble, THEN...HO HO HO!
Definitely agree w/ you Ralph. I love Thanksgiving. It's a real shame that it has felt skipped over in recent years. It's so important to our history in America.
My mother is coming for Thanksgiving. I'll likely have a lot to be thankful for on Nov. 25!
