Ticked at Taters

I’ve always liked Tater Tots. When in North Dakota I discovered they are considered one of the major food groups. At every meal, hot dish, a.k.a. Tater Tot casserole, was available. Hot dish consisted of Tater Tots and anything else you had to throw in. I never had two that tasted the same. Given my fondness for Tater Tots, it didn’t matter.

About a year or so ago, I wrote about being saddened by spaghetti sauce. Not long ago Cliff explained why he was troubled by tea. I guess it is only fitting to explain why I am ticked at taters.

Admittedly, it was not one of my better days. So I thought a “comfort meal” of hamburgers and Tater Tots would help.

Stopping at the store, I went to get the prized Tater Tots. That’s when I became overwhelmed and ticked off – did I happen to mention it was not one of my better days? All I could do was stare!

I could have Potato’s O’Brien, Hash Browns, Zesty Hash Browns, Zesties, Golden Fries, Texas Crispers, Golden Twirls, Golden Crinkles, French Fries, Golden Fries, Waffle Fries, Seasoned Crinkles, Fast Food Fries, Crispies, Extra Crisp Crispies, or Crowns.

Finally, on the bottom shelve, clear in the back was one lonely bag of Tater Tots. Now, it might just be me, but do we really need or even want that many choices?

Given the fact I got the last bag of Tater Tots I’m assuming someone was having hot dish for dinner – or they’re stale.

I guess every church in the area was having a potluck. You were lucky they left you a bag.

Just wondering, do you and Cliff have any hobbies?

Ralph,
If you're a tater guy, you should try the Ore-Ida® Roasted Savory Herb potatoes. They are the bomb...and fairly low on sodium too. Half a bag in the toaster oven for 16 minutes. Enough for 2-3 servings.

Seeker - Yeah, hot dish is a popular potluck item.
Dan - – Cliff and I both use to have hobbies. Now we are spending so much time looking for “original” items we don't have time. Did I happen to mention we are also sleep deprived?
Jerry - I'll go out on a limb here and give them a try. I just worry it will foster more new products. You know, "If they liked those they'll love these. But based on your recommendation - I'll try them.

You may need to see a rage counselor. I feel these hostile feelings towards tots may morph into a full blown food fight in a restaurant or in a grocery store. You could end up being humiliated on You Tube. Get some help soon.

We cook our tots extra crispy around here.
Ummmm good.

I have never had a tater tot casserole. Can you believe it? Tater Tots are okay sometimes, but I don't eat them much.

Whew, I am really glad that you found that one bag left for you!! That Tater Tot rage can be an awful thing!! :)

I have always said this country has too many choices of everything. Sometimes I just stand and stare dumbfounded not knowing which one to choose.
I haven't had Tater Tots in a long time but I did have Cheesy Taters at Burger King today. Does that count?

I feel the pain Ralph.
Last week we needed Ritz Crackers. They go with our favorite crab dip. Yep...NO RITZ CRACKERS!!!!! They had 'Low Sodium Ritz Crackers.' They had a LOT of them. As a matter of fact I don't think any were missing from the shelf.
Okay you're getting me all worked up and it isn't even 5:30 AM yet.

Ralph,

I feel your pain. Last week, I REALLY needed 3 containers of cool whip to make my homemade (from Kraft) sour cream frosting for cakes I made. I was lucky to get 1, the last one. The next morning, as the cakes were due, I had to get 2 more, only to have to defrost 1 in the micro because cool whip is stored at the grocery in the freezer aisle. Ended up really good cakes. Anyway, I love tater tots too. When you've got a good one, why change?

Dan nailed it - I didn't know bags of tater tots got "lonely". I shutter to think what happens when they get "psycho" - "tater rage"?

I love tater tots! How sad and lonely that little bag must have been until you found it and brought it home with you...

I loved tater tots as a kid... we had them at school but never at home. I have to admit that I still love them. However, I find myself passing them up due to their high calorie, low food value content. ONce in a while, though, I manage to ignore everything else and fix some for myself. Yummy with ketchup!

I'm glad you at least found one bag.
I saw a recipe on TV a few days ago where they seasoned the taters with spices like Thyme, chili powder, etc., and toasted them in the oven. That sounds kind of good to me.
Oh well, I Never met a spud I didn't like!

Hi Ralph -- All those kids are still eating them!
Grocery sores can't keep them on the shelves, they go so quickly.
They generally put a couple dozen down on the bottom shelf, hiding them from the kids, so the old geezers can get theirs.
We are getting a pardon (early release due to my accidental injury) from jail here tomorrow and will be in Newark, NJ, tomorrow afternoon.
Karen, DOJ, is running Jim' Little Blog for now.
BTW, they didn't have Tater Tots when I was growing up. They didn't even have home freezers.

Tater Tot casseroles are by far some of the best things around. Serious tastey goodness.

Glad you rescued that bag. It will now multiply in your freezer until you will forget what you ever needed tater tots for.

It's the T-squared plan for world domination.

My boys won't eat the taters. Maybe because its not an english thing.

I will have to try them again.

Matt will only eat fries like Mcdonalds fries. Poor boy!
