Fire and Ice

In 2005, wildfires burnt 14,446 acres in Colorado. Last week wildfires burnt 7,400 acres. It’s only the middle of January!

I took this picture last week. It shows part of a 2,700-acre fire that was eleven miles from our house. One hundred homes were evacuated at 1:00 o’clock in the morning. Fortunately, none were destroyed.

At the same time, fifty miles away, at a much higher elevation, they closed the interstate highway because of blizzard conditions.

It’s been a weird year.

It would help several states if Colorado could get a good cover of snow.
Thanks for the pics Ralph. Glad you didn't have to leave your home.

Do you want to hear global warming?

Our weather person said this morning a big snow is heading your way.
Maybe you will get some to put out your fires.

I could just see Ralph sprinting out of his house in the middle of the night, dutch oven in hand, and plucking the shot gun shell off the front tree on the way by. Char would already be in the car.

Glad you didn't have to leave your home Ralph. I hate those wildfires, so sad for the animals, the trees, and the people. Very scary things!

I agree that the weather has been weird this year. We got a little skiff of snow last night but it's supposed to warm back up to 60 tomorrow!

Funny comment Dan!!

It has been a period of weird weather for sure! How about a hurricane season that doesn't end before the next one begins! Hope you get a respite from the fires!

We you rushing out of the house with the dutch oven so you could cook something? And did you grab the shotgun shell so that Char could fight off any stranger who tried to get a taste? What's the wild fire to charcoal conversion?

Sobering statistics. I'm very sad thinking of the profound devastation to animals and plantlife.
