Labor Day

Yesterday, the first Monday in September, was the official Labor Day Holiday. A day created by the labor movement over a hundred years ago dedicated to the achievements of American workers.

Like many other people, we invited some friends over. All told there was nine of us. Being one of those people who don’t want people to leave hungry I started cooking and just kept going. Char got into the act by making her world famous (and it truly is) chicken salad and a couple of deserts. By the time we were done, we had enough food prepared to feed a NFL team.

All seven friends arrived and we sat on the deck having a good time talking and eating and eating and eating. When everybody was leaving we said the usual line, “don’t worry about cleaning up this won’t take long at all”.

Early this morning I walked into the kitchen to be greeted by sinks full of dishes and counter tops completely covered with dishes, pots, pans, and glasses. Lots and lots of glasses. It’s amazing how many glasses nine people go through. That’s when I realized today is really going to be our ‘labor day’.

You mean "Labor Day" has something to do with work?
I always thought it was a day dedicated to the American Barbecue.
Yummm... chicken salad.

Dishes can always wait... friends and family are much more important! Those events are the best of times!

Paper plates and cups, my friend. *G*

The barbecue sounds wonderful though, and that's the important part! :0)

UUUMMM I am with the paper, or B.Y.O.P. That is how they do it at mom's old lady complex.

How about it. Did you use your D.O.? Sounded like fun. Can't wait to use the new deck.
Ralph, the beans are starting to turn yellow and the corn is well on it's way to brown. Ah, the earth tones of fall. Now, I'm waiting for the crispy air, instead of sweaty 90 degrees.

Glad you all had fun on my BD.
We're postponing any BD celebration until Oct b/c of more important events, not "just Katrina." And no, I don't want to be interviewed by any talk show host as a "present."
